Sister Therese’s Legacy Gala – September 29, 2016
Through Sister Therese’s personal example of service to others and committed leadership, St. Martin de Porres House of Hope has transformed the lives of more than 4,000 women who were once homeless and addicted to drugs. St. Martin’s unwavering commitment to rebuilding the lives of women and their children is unparalleled.
Under Sister Therese’s leadership St. Martin de Porres House of Hope has grown from modest beginnings as a small homeless shelter to a thriving presence on Chicago’s Substance Abuse Recovery scene that specifically addresses the needs of female substance abusers and their children.
Sister Therese and the staff she mentors continually deepen the substance abuse recovery program. She led the creation of an intensive coaching program for women with learning disabilities to give them additional instruction time to improve their comprehension of the 12 Steps of Alcohol and Narcotic Anonymous.
When it became apparent that many women had a dual diagnosis in substance abuse and mental illness, she responded to their needs with increased behavior health services. At the same time, she has remained true to St. Martin de Porres House of Hope’s commitment to being a family environment that helps to rebuild the bond between mothers and their children that was lost because of drug addiction.
To honor Sister Therese’s commitment to female substance abuse recovery, we are excited to announce the establishment of the Sister Therese O’Sullivan Fund to support staff development. The purpose of the endowment is to generate funds to help St. Martin de Porres House of Hope continue to recruit and retain the very best staff offering professional development opportunities and competitive compensation packages. Please join the entire St. Martin de Porres House of Hope community in celebrating Sister Therese’s achievements and St. Martin’s bright future!
